You've just gone through the drive-through window at your favorite coffee shop, and with java in hand, you set out on your commute. Only, your All-Trac is a stick, and you need both hands to drive it; so what to do with your coffee? As you all have probably noticed, many if not all Corolla All-Trac wagons don't come with cup holders -- at least mine did not. But if you have been inside any non-All-Trac Corolla, you may have noticed that these cars do come with cup holders, located just below the cigarette lighter/front ashtray that is at the front of where the center console meets the dash, just in front of the shifter. Well, your All-Trac wagon has the same radio/cigarette lighter/ashtray cluster, -- and just below it, the same potential space for a cup holder; the mounting bracket is there, there just isn't any cup holder. You can get a cup holder from either a same-color "regular" Corolla in a junk yard (that's what I did), order one from the dealer, or get one on-line through places like eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors.....ssories#ht_500wt_963. To install: undo the screws on either side of the center instrument cluster, pry up the edge of the bezel with a flatblade screwdriver (cover the end with electrical tape to prevent scratching the plastic of your car), and insert in the cup holder. You can then put screws into the mounting holes to secure your cup holder. See the pics below. Be aware that these cup holders aren't very deep; so I wouldn't put any really tall container/cup/glass in the holder. Perhaps this was the reason that Toyota decided to not include them in the wagons?

I remember being in that scenario several times. Wish I had known about this sooner...
Thanks for the tip! |

Couple of questions. Will some parts from a regular corolla be used on our 89 all-trac? Door handles, dash clocks, windows, mudflaps etc? If so what years? Also, was 89 rhe 1st year of the all-trac wagon? Thanks fellas! |

To answer your question and based on my own experience of owning an All-Trac among a sea of "regular" Corollas, yes, some of the non-All-Trac parts will work on All-Trac Corollas and some will not. This difference is based both on type of car (All-Trac versus regular Corolla) and on year (88-89, and 90-92). What fits and doesn't fit varies but the major factor is [/b]get the part from a regular Corolla of the same year. In general, most generic small body parts do fit: side mirrors door handles dash clocks dash pad --not sure about this console faces dash switches steering wheel seat belts brake, gas pedals butThe center console appears to be different: it's shallower in the All-Trac due to the presence of the center diff and propeller shaft. Most engine parts fit, but only for same model year blocks: 88-89, and 90-92there are exceptions to this: Clutch: Because of the 4WD drivetrain, the All-Trac clutch is heavier duty: thicker flywheel, etc. in the All-Trac. Propeller shaft Rear differential (but it appears to be similar if not identical to that of the 88 Toyota Tercel) What doesn't fit: major body parts (front fenders: notice the difference in the shape of the turn signal lights) unique body parts (rear hatch, package tray) door glass for the front doors (different shape A pillar between the models) How to verify what fits and what doesn't fitGo to http://www.toyodiy.com and look up your All-Trac or Carib by sales region, model year, and transmission. On the page with the part, write down or copy the Toyota part #. Be aware that some part numbers are not correct, and many part numbers have been superceded by new ones. Next go to a discount parts website that allows you to enter the manufacturer's part number directly. One of my favorites is: http://www.parts.com. Choose Toyota, and then enter the part number. Up should come a list of all the cars that Toyota makes that have that part. Since All-Tracs and Caribs are rare, you can use the other cars as sources for these parts. |

What do you mean by the mounting bracket is there. I felt around under the ashtray and I can't find any mounting holes etc. Or do you mean behind the console. It seems to me that if I wanted to mount anything under there I would have to drill holes for screws. Which I may very well do. I guess I'll just take it apart and look. |

you will definitely see it.. just pull out the bottom part of the center console and you will see one empty hole on each side where each screw goes |

You have to remove the bottom end of the center console to get to the mounting bracket. So does anyone else have mods? I have many ideas, but I just need the time to do them. And how do we get more members to this site? |

I have several ideas for new mods; I'm working one now but probably won't post it until a few weeks. I'm have also been tinkering with some other improvements. Does anybody have any air intake mods? I have a K&N filter in mine, but a stock air intake. |

I thought about doing a cold air intake to mine, but the airbox draws air in from right by the headlight anyway so its probably relatively fresh air anyway.
But I really want the sweet intake sound (as if I could hear it over my rusted out exhaust anyway, lol) |

Are there any "regular" Corollas in Australia, i.e. the AE92 models? You want a model that runs the same years as the AE95, i.e. 1988-1992. Next choose a model that has the same exterior color, since it will most likely have the same interior color. The cup holders are located in the dash, just below the radio. You will have to unscrew the dash, then pry up the edges with a flat blade or screwdriver -- cover the ends with electrical tape to avoid scratching the cup holder. to install in your car, just do the same operation. Or, try eBay.com.au for cup holders or cupholders. You may have to try over a period of days or weeks. I just tried "cupholders toyota" and got several choices, but none for that would fit. Or try http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com for cupholders. I wonder if they will ship to Australia. |

ah....ok I'll check the AE92's around the wreckers.
Hey admin..... There was something wrong when I posted the former reply - I kept getting an error notice & of course tried to re-send several times hence the multiple/identical response...
Sorry 'bout that.

So I've got my cupholder, and I went to install it... but there isn't anything for the screws to thread into! I must have missed grabbing a part, assuming that I already had something in my All-Trac that I did not! But I can always use a nut/bolt/washers to achieve the same effect. |

Maybe you have a different plastic console mount than my 88 has. When I take off the radio/console front bezel, there are two plastics tabs just below the radio, both of which have holes. I used these to match up to the same tabs that are on the cupholders; I put in screws into these holes, but I noticed that it fit just as well without using any screws at all. Screws do make it a bit more sturdier.

I also had nothing behind the mounting holes, like Rogue. So I ended up using a slightly larger diameter self-tapping screw. Obviously the self tapping part was a bit of overkill, but that type of screw has nice wide pan threads on it, and I've had no problems in the month or so that I've had mine installed! =)
I may end up taking the dash apart to re-wire a radar detector, if I do, I might switch to a machine screw and nut for something to do, but the self tapper seems quite sturdy! Weird how the tab was there with the hole, but no backing.
They *ARE* quite shallow, but they hold a Tim Hortons if I drive like a normal human, and not like I'm in a race...<ahem> |

I wonder if I could do something like with the Mk1/Mk2 VW Rabbit/Golf. There's a cubby (similar to ours) that is apparently a perfect fit for the cupholders from the mid-90's Ford Taurus fit in there pretty good with only some minor modifications. Otherwise, I'm sure there are other options. For example, I've seen some sort of cupholders designed for marine (boat) use, that basically would screw into the side of the console, if you didn't care how it looked. |

I've been thinking about this issue a little more, and I think what I might do is go to walmart and get one of those wedge cupholders. Then cut off a portion of the bottom, drill some holes in the side, and screw it into the side of the center console, on the passenger side (where that chunk of raised floor is). Wouldn't be pretty but it would be functional. Or maybe if I end up getting the MR2 seats, they might leave less space between the seats/center console, so the wedge thing might work as intended.
Also has a nice section in the middle I could do some interesting things with. I've been wanting to add in another power outlet (or maybe some USB ports, since everything I own charges via USB and I already use an adapter thing to charge my phone in the car). |

I want to buy one of those carpet-y dash mats, and maybe sew a cupholder onto the edge near the passenger side. But it depends on how well the cover grabs the dash. I already have the cupholders, they were a set of four I think, didn't cost much... they're the type you're supposed to clip onto the door or somewhere. They also have a mounting screwhole, which I used to mount one on my riding lawnmower... |

I would love to get one of those cup holders! How wide are the circles for the cups? I wonder if I could fit my water bottle into one of those. |

I currently am using a cup holder I bought with a sticky bottom and put it in front of the shifter (auto). I can' open my ashtray currently but not too upset about that. I saw one of those that JedzWagn posted on ebay the other day. Got to grab one. |
