So, as mentioned before, I scan craigslist and eBay fairly often ISO a '92 wagon. To find a clean one with no structural issues and under 150k miles is sort of a pet project of mine. I am not, however, willing to pay 2k + for something 17 yrs old. Therefore, my price range is anything up to 1500. Also need a 5spd, not an automatic. If you have something falling within these parameters, please drop me a PM or email. Might also possibly trade my '00 Subaru Legacy wagon too, if the deal is right.

Thanks...

There is a 1992 one for sale in Seattle, but aren't you in Massachusetts?
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1032699377.html
and it has more miles than you would like
and the current owner wants more for it than you probably want to pay.

And there was another 1992 model year  for sale last month (January) in Anchorage.

Saw the one in Anchorage before...obviously too far away. This Seattle version has way too many miles to be worth 1800. I also found two in MA recently (Boston area), but both cars had too high mileage. The conditions of less than 150k miles & basic structural integrity seem to be mutually exclusive, for the most part. Almost all the nice ones coming up on eBay have been automatics too - no 5spds. Interesting...

Sometimes I scan cars.com, autotrader & oodle, but don't usually find much on those sites. It's a rare thing to locate specifically what I'd like, for sure. The (lazy) hunt continues. Thanks for your effort though - appreciate that.

There is a 1992 All-Trac for sale in Burlington, VT -- seems closer to MA.
But, then again, it has a blown motor.

Yeah, saw it last night. You generally should avoid VT or Maine cars because of the salt factor on their roads. They tend to be completely rusted out underneath. I also had a bad experience going to see one in VT 2 yrs ago too & made a stupid decision in the process. Don't plan on doing that ever again...

Long story - don't ask.

Yes, salt ... didn't think of that; I wonder why more auto makers don't rust proof their cars from the factory.  But I have been thinking about getting rid of the rust on my underside and then coating the bottom with some rust-proof or rust-resistant compound, perhaps Herculiner or something similar.

That's an excellent idea. Would def. look into it if I were you. There is some stuff in a can which turns rust black & stops any further oxidation on metal. Can't remember the name, but it's easily found at most auto parts stores. Might be a good candidate for your chassis issues.

Hey fellas, As to the rust issue, the product you are looking for is called POR-15. Just google, and you will find. Very pricey, but well worth it. Will be doing some rust work myself with this product followed by some 3M rubberized coating on top. I used POR-15 over 20yrs ago on a van that was completely rusted on wheel wells, rocker panels, fenders etc. Rust never returned. Had the van for another 12 yrs.

Sorry to say, no. Will be replacing radiator and flex pipe this weekend. Hope there is not  a problem with the manifold. Only 112,000 on her. Worth fixing her.

Correct - it's still very serviceable with such low mileage. Looks in good structural condition too...

Been searching again more actively using craiglook.com...found a couple in CO in the $1500 - 2k range. There's actually one in Boulder with a recently rebuilt engine & new clutch:

http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/1331505850.html

I'm visiting a friend out there at the beginning of October & am (somewhat) tempted to look at this thing. Now, whether I'll suffer a sudden momentary lapse of reason & buy it or not remains yet to be seen...

If I had a few grand to spare and knew the condition of the engine of that All-Trac, I'd be tempted to buy it. But I've invested much into what I have already (just redid the exhaust manifold, new antenna, and some special interior mods) that I would hate to start over again.  And I don't have $2000 to spare right now.  The economy sucks.

Okay guys...look what I found in SC:

http://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/cto/1385726081.html

This thing is really tempting, except for the mileage/year. I called & left a VM with the owner a little while ago. Obviously there are some potential logistics to work out. What's the best decision in such a scenario?

Edit: gone - he deleted the ad within the last few hours. Some things were just never meant to be...

I'm still in the market (albeit quietly) for a '92 5-spd with no structural issues...please PM if you have something to offer. The '00 Subaru Legacy wagon trade still stands - just decided to take the other thread down as it seemed redundant.
