My wagon comes standard with basic speedo fuel & oil gauge.... Does anyone know if other corolla models have dashboards with tacometers that fit the AE95's all trac's etc.? I know the AE92 has some similar parts...not sure if it's an exact fit though.. |

If it is an SR5 it should have a tacho as far as i know, you sure it is an SR5 and not an XL? The auto CSi wagons also have tachos and nicer seats. are your seats like above or like: Do you have central locking / power windows? I do know a guy who tried to swap them over and had endless headaches, not sure if he ever got it working. Probably a lot easier to install an aftermarket tacho, you can keep them out of the way and get reasonable sized ones (ie not monster). |

Mine is also an SR5 and did come with a tachometer. I don't know about the AE92's but why not check toyodiy.com to see if the same part number corresponds with both. I was in a junkyard recently and saw both a junkyard All-Trac with the same instrument cluster that I have as well as what appeared to be a similar instrument cluster in an AE92 that was identical to my instrument cluster. Of course, ours is the reverse of what is found in NZ and Australia. |

Actually ended up in an AE92 the other night & the dash set up is identical from what I can tell.
Funny thing is my car's badged SR5 on the rear window but came with normal wind-up windows & no powers steering (Which I don't mind - more room in the engine bay)
Perhaps some one had a bingle & had to change the tail gate on it - but I've got full service history 7 there's no mention...
I eventually plan on doing the late model 4agze conversion, & a few other pretty major mod's so the car will be off the road for a bit while I get another run about, so I expect I'll have a few head aches here & there, whether it's the dash/taco or something else.
BTW... Saw a late model fwd 4agze package on ebay including supercharger, gearbox wiring loom ECUetc but the guy wants $2,699 for it & isn't allowing any offers or bids - Bit too rich for me.. |

Like yours, mine is all manual (5-speed, manual windows, manual mirrors, manual door locks, manual rear hatch) except for the electric sunroof. But I am working on some mods to make some of these manual things electric or automatic. I'll post those mods. |

Quick question about the dash OEM tachometer... if I get hold of a 6th gen Corolla cluster with the tacho, will it work in my wagon even though it doesn't have a tacho from the factory? What I mean is, what will tell the tacho how many RPMs my engine is doing if my wagon didn't roll out of the factory with a tacho?
I hope I'm making sense... I'd like to know what my RPMs are, but don't want to bother with tearing out a 6th gen dash cluster with a tacho if it isn't going to work in my wagon! Maybe I should just get an aftermarket one? In which case I don't even know where to start... |

I would assume that they should have the same connectors on the differing cluster gauges. It wouldn't make sense for a company to have several wiring harnesses. It's a pain to get to the cluster, but I would say give it a shot. I think all of the SR5 all-tracs have a tach. |

Yeah, I'm hoping to get into it this weekend. Hopefully I'll see whether or not I have the wiring for a tach behind the dash. |

Taking a break right now from my wagon diagnostics for lunch. I need to find out a few things, like why the speedometer jumps (no idea, the speed sensor checked out alright but the needle was warbly as it moved), and why my washer fluid does not squirt for my front windshield, yet it works for the rear wiper. Also the washer reservoir has a leak, I'd like to find it and patch it up rather than buy a new one. Anyways about the tach, I pulled my gauge cluster and saw that there is a wire and connector on the harness for what I assume is the tach (going by the manual). For the cluster with tach, I think the pinout is C6. On the non-tach cluster, there's nothing there for it to do anything. So I have a wire that will most likely work the tach when I get myself a gauge cluster with one! Here's hoping. I might head to the junkyards tomorrow, so I could have this going before the weekend! Great Success! |

These AE95 sedans are very rare over here... I contemplated buying it.
In the end I scrapped my plans for the day & went down & checked it out.
It's a 4AF carburettor automatic.
It had 174000 on the clock.
I day dreamed further about putting a 4agze into my wagon & putting my 4afe into this little baby & turning it into a weekend rally styled car but I really hate automatics... & began to consider the real logistics involved in working on both cars at once... It's a shame...the body's solid & in good nik.
I don't know what it would take if I wanted to make it a manual transmission..
In the end I managed to salvage a few gems from it. I was keen on the little tinted wind guards on each door but some one had already beat me to it.
I came away with the tacho I've been after & a bonus cup holder part for my centre console.. & a few injectors that aren't quite as old as mine & some lead holders from a couple of AE92's

Nice finds there! That cupholder looks awesome... I wish I could get one like that for my wagon! I pulled some cupholders (still for sale if anyone wants them, look in that section of this forum) from some AE92s at the junkyard I went to back in February. They don't quite work as well as I hoped, and don't fit my water bottles that I use. But that sedan's cupholders... if anyone finds a set of those, could you grab them for me?
I'm hoping that I'll find a tacho cluster someday. I mean they weren't that uncommon...
My friend was telling me one of his relatives had one of those AE95 sedans. She lived in Canada... so perhaps there are some LHD models as well as RHD? |
