Ok, I have an all-trac that I have been doing quite a bit of work to. After having it sit for a couple months of work, the thing wouldn't start. No click from the starter, but the lights and gauges would illuminate. We tried jumping it, nothing. I put in a new solenoid, nothing. Eventually, I was push starting it for all of December.
Over the holidays, I pulled a working starter off of a 2wd corolla to hopefully put it on my all-trac. I found out that the mounts are different for the drivetrain differences, because the all-trac trans/transfer case is very close to the starter and has mounts that are NOT 180 degrees apart, like the 2wd starter. Well, I put it on anyway with one mount in, knowing full well it was a bad idea. Unfortuneately, I wasn't able to see or hear the noizes I expected from the single mount starter, because it did nothing when I turned the key.
Now that everyone has the background. Is there some in-line fuse on the alltracs or has anyone had a similar problem? I checked my service manual, and used the troubleshooting portion, but I just don't get it. The starter just isn't getting any juice.

Also, anyone else think it would be good to have a Maintenance Section to the Forums??

Yes,  it would be nice to consolidate maintenance tips.  I do almost all of my own maintenance, as well as tinkering with a few mods here and there.

As far as you starting problem, since you hear no click, have you checked:
- clutch start switch
- clutch relay (it's the green relay above the driver's side footwell fuse panel)
- starter main relay (in the engine compartment)

My starter started giving out at 190K+ miles and so I bought a remanufactured one on eBay.  Note: there are two types of starters that came with these cars: a 1.0 kW regular starter and a 1.4 kW "cold spec" starter.  Mine was the "cold spec" 1.4kW starter so that is what I put back in.

I figured it out once I troubleshot the ignition switch. Turns out that when I disconnected the steering column I put the wiring back together but pushed the starting wire node out of the plastic connector. I did about 20 hours of work to find out none of it was necessary! Well, I guess I'm learning...
On the note of learning, I was slightly wrong about the mounts for the different starters. The all trac starter mount is symmetrical to the fwd one. I don't know how I got a bolt into the fwd one...
