i decided to delete the other thread (which didn't really serve much good purpose anyways). the whole thing was fairly redundant & silly, so away it goes...

what we have now is another trade opportunity - a '90 SR5 w/180k on the clock. take a look @ these pics & give me your impressions. initially, i'm damn tempted by this car.

tell me about it...i was so ready to compromise for that thing, it blinded me to an obvious fact: the car was just plain incomplete. it wouldn't have made any sense. however, the body was in decent shape (fenders notwithstanding). truth is, there will almost always be a compromise w/these vehicles in terms of either mileage or condition. therefore, you take what you can get w/a discerning eye towards striking a balance between both (if possible).

Looks to be in good shape... how about the interior?  Fenders & body rust?  5 speed or autotragic?   See if you can get a video clip of the engine running, and make sure the guy lets it warm up and also pulls the cable on the TB so you can hear it rev up a little.

he's driving it here to look @ my car (possibly over the weekend). no long distance blurry jpeg/video BS - we'll both drive the other's vehicle & thoroughly evaluate them to make a decision. transmission is manual. i'm guessing his also has cruise & A/C w/the SR5 trim. too bad there's no sunroof...

Mmmmm Cruise, that will be the one thing I'll miss this summer. =\

Anyway, yeah this time you seem in much better shape if hes coming to see you in person! I like the colour of that one, you might have to sand and paint those awful rims though, they look very tired after a hard day's work.

running a vehicle history report on it today, as he emailed the VIN this AM - figure that's a good precaution. we're supposed to maybe meet in Providence over the next few days for an exchange...if the autocheck is kosher.

well, ran the autocheck report. low & behold, it's a transplant f/Colorado! she migrated here about 2 months ago, & resides in Providence. we're still negotiating a time/place to meet, but i'm getting pretty stoked on this deal. will keep you all appraised...

Why is the transplant from Colorado a good thing or even relevant? =) I'm guessing because Colorado isn't as rusty for conditions as Providence?

that's correct - New England is infamous for killing older Japanese cars due to so much salt on the roads & copious winter precipitation. if i get this thing, one of the first steps is to undercoat it so no oxidation will occur.

Ahhhh yeah makes sense. They just started using some Calcium-Chloride (liquid salt) solution on the roads here this winter, and I've never seen so much rust appear on a car in 6 months. I've got some sanding and painting to do this summer. Alberta is quite similar to Colorado in terms of elevation and much more, although I'm sure it gets colder here for longer...so vehicles DO rust, but not with minimal care. Now with this new chemical, I'm not sure that will be the case. =\

I also walk a lot with my dog, and I noticed this winter my jeans would become as hard as rocks around the cuffs, and they're eaten up and worn away at the heel because of this stupid chemical.

IF EVERYONE OWNED ALL TRACS WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO SALT THE ROADS! SAVE NATURE! haha

LMAO - good point! we must launch a campaign dictating that the whole country drive All-Tracs (or some other AWD iteration) so there'd be no more need for salting roads in wintertime.
