Feel free and have a look around! Its quite a bit messy, dirty after a long winter. I'll be detailing it this week hopefully, possibly take some new pics Friday after it has a new muffler and 15" wheels on it.

Right now it has 195/70/R13 Studded winter's on the front and 175/70/13 non-studded winter's on the rear. Switching to 195/50/15- Kumho Ecsta All Season's on some nicer rims.

I want to paint these factory ones this summer while they're off the car, possibly using the same white from the rims to the faded 'Toyota' names on the top right rear, and the rear mud guards! Suggestions? Do I have to scrape that off then paint, or do you think I could carefully mask the rest of it, and put some thin layers of white paint on slowly?

Anyway, I'm interested for your comments good and bad! LET'ER RIP!

I took it in to have the tires mounted balanced and installed today, and for a new muffler. Turns out the factory muffler is still good, theres a resonator before the muffler, roughly underneath the rear-right passenger seat, that is shot and has been my rattling problem. I chose to straight pipe it, rather than pay $200 for a new resonator, it still runs much quieter than before even with the straight pipe. Hopefully it moves a little extra air...with the money I saved not putting a new muffler on it, I think I'll invest in a Cold Air Intake this weekend! =P

Love the rims!  Is the bush bar made for the Carib Sprinter / All-Trac?  I'd love to add one along with the fog lights.

Edit: never mind, I see your other topic now.  Congrats on the bush bar!  And that sucks about the lights already being gone.  I didn't realize they were so large... but I kind of like it

Very cool. I wonder where I might be able to find one of those for my ride.

Rogue: Thanks on the rims, I lucked out and they came with the car! I wouldn't be surprised if they fit onto your Corolla, honestly! It was just 2 bolts, fine thread, very close to the bumper bolts. Bumper bolts are vertical, these bolts were horizontally threaded, size 17mm (11/16 will work once its loose, but its a rusty bolt to begin with). My car had a metal plate bolted on each side, possibly just to occupy the bolt holes which have welded nuts on the other side. So if your car has these same plates bolted underneath it is very likely that it would fit in my opinion!

The bar is kinda wimpy looking when I walk up to my car, but once it has a couple nice big lights on it, I think the look will improve!

Rickyzee: I was told they're about $100 CDN when you can find them, you could try outbackimports.ca ... I get all my stuff through jdmparts.ca but they haven't been able to find one for the last couple months.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those compartments between the rear speakers & retro fit it to my basic 89 model

I'm assuming it would be ridiculously easy as long as you got all the sub-frame-attachment parts of the compartment. First the compartment comes off at the hinges, then the part where my speakers are comes off to reveal some angled and bent framing. I didn't look much into removing them, but from what I can tell it was some simple bolts.

I guess to retrofit you would also have to cut your roof strategically, etc, but I'm pretty sure you would have all the bolt holes waiting for you, as I said, as long as you get all the frame and bolts from the donor car, you should be in very good shape! =)

I plan on taking some pics soon and doing a little more work to this stereo to call it complete. It has the amp in it, 2 Alpine Type R's in those empty holes shown in the pics. I plan on running another pair of RCAs and hooking up my little 10" sub since I'm currently missing out on all the audio signals produced below 80hz, which is a large portion of music. Also going to put the KTP-445 amp (power pack) back in. While I have the dash apart I'll try and get as many pics as possible!

Finally, done. Bugs worked out, sounds great. Definitely can drown out the road noise on the highway, which was my main goal. It also sounds extremely crisp and clean, I'm impressed with the quality of sound considering I didn't go overboard on components. Although the total price tag did end up getting pretty high.

The pics show the cooling fans and the beautiful Silicon bead I made! (Quite proud of that one, even though its never visible, and I believe the over heating was being caused by improperly wired front speakers...haha BUT LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL BEAD! =D) It also shows the area behind the deck, and where the small amp sits, which is to the left of the stereo, under the dash, above the glove box. The  high/low gain switch is accessible by removing the glove box portion of the dash, which is just a few screws. I tried to show it by taking a series of 4 pics that slowly backed away. I ended up running another set of RCA's that aren't pictures, so theres 2 sets running to the back amp, both of which run along the floor on the passenger (left for me) side. The sub will sit behind the driver side in the back of the wagon. I haven't had time to mount it so I haven't been using it. In the unlikely event that I roll this car, I don't want the subwoofer to become a lethal object. I hope to have that done by this week!

Other than that, I'm mostly done with modifications for now. In a month or two when I get bored I'm going to put a 12v outlet in the back of the wagon near the window. It will make it much more convenient for me when I'm pumping up rafts or even the rear tires. No hurry though.

Also: Those rims are likely to be scrapped, I cracked one of them driving in the mountains this weekend. HEH. So, I'm driving on my 21yr old spare from Japan, with japanese writing all over it. It even has the pressure reading in KG per CM2 (squared). Its going to be winter soon, I think I'll just put the winter tires/rims on and look for a set of 14" rims and tires for next year!

That's a serious bit of kit you installed there, 2 cooling fans & all..

Those winter tyres with original steel rims painted white looked heaps ballsier anyway

I think the cooling fans were overkill, I actually had a speaker wired backwards by my colorblind friend, and instead of switching the speaker wires I assumed the deck was overheating. (Duh)

Anyway, the fans are probably unnecessary but at least the deck will stay cool on the hot days! hahaha

Yeah I know! I've been too busy replacing everything under the hood to worry about the rust, but its turn it coming soon! Sometime in the new year I'll get something done about it. I'm looking for someone to weld in some sheet metal, *AND* cut some holes for custom back up lights. Probably mount 2 2x4" square lights, or maybe the 2 4" PIAA's on the front of the wagon might move to the back door, and I'll replace them with some 6" lights up front on the bar.

Another thing I have to do is visit my friend's welding shop to make a custom mount for the lights on that bar, I don't like how the lights are the farthest thing forward. If I actually bump anything those lights are going to break before the bar even touches whatever I'm hitting! hahaha BUT, rust will be addressed before I make the mount. Unfortunately the friend who owns the welding shop refuses to do auto body work.
