Hi fellow All-trac, All-rad, Corolla 4wd, Carib Sprinter, Ae95 and Tercel Kombi drivers (I think I got everyone?),

Great to see this site up and running I've been admins on the Tercel.4wd for a few years and have owned a couple of those boxy beasts. Just got a pretty good deal on a SR5 corolla AWD wagon 900kms away from here in Adelaide for $1800, anyway. I gotta get my mechanic to go over it in the next few weeks and see if I am going to keep it or the Tercel (they are such different cars to drive).

I'm not sure if the pics are working, it's a 1988 with all power options and I just did a drive of 900kms where it used only 60litres of fuel, however around town it seems a lot thirstier. Bonus pic of my old Tercs as well.

Cheers and keep up the top work

Out of curiosity, why do you say they are so different? I've never driven a Tercel, but they look much more ugly. Not that our wagons are the prettiest girls on the road. =D

Hi Dylan,
The Tercel feels gutless compared to the mighty 4-afe (?) but a bit peppier off the line. A lot less refined as a cruiser but better off road (extra low gear and transfer case), lighter and doesn't mind being thrown around to much. The Corolla feels like a limo compared to the Terc 4wd. Whether this is a good thing is debatable. They seem like they have similar fuel economy but the Tercel has Carbs, North-South engine and only 55kw of power. In australia a lot of people get the all-trac and the tercel confused as the Tercel 4wd was the only Tercel we ever got.

cheers

Welcome!  Nice looking wagons.  The Tercels do have a bit of an uglier back end, I guess it's that huge rectangle on the lift gate (does that area have anything special behind it?).

You do seem to have a matching set though, the red ones

Nothing special behind the ATM machine, For some reason the state I live in had mandated that the Tercels licence plate was on the wrong side of the car so they all had the licence plate placed in an even uglier aftermarket holder. so dealers would put a red reflector on the licence plate holder just to fill up the space. The green Tercel was from interstate. Yep, the red one's find me so I have to spend a bit of time polishing and waxing. thanks for the welcome

yep, i'm a sucker for the luxuries. power sunroof, windows, steering and the little cubby up in above the rear hatch with a picnic rug in it. Got some 14" corolla wheels on it right now though.

I'm looking for a scrapyard or out of rego cheapie with a sunroof - Don't care about the power assisted stearing or the little cubby up-back...I want all the room I can get in the engine bay to drop the 4agze in ....but definitely want the sunroof to go with the new cup holders I got from the wrecking yard.....

Here's what I'd like to put in place of the thing you call 'the little cubby'

..for when I'm sleeping in the back on camping trips

The sunroof is awesome. what are you going to do, take a whole roof off a corolla with a factory unit (someone on the Tercel website talked about doing this once) or one of get one of those glass ones and cut a hole in the roof? (some of the guys on the Tercel4wd site did that also if you need to look at a write up). I waited a couple of years to find a cheap corolla with a factory sunroof as I've also got one in my Tercel and it's fun to cruse around in the summer with. Although they do seem to like to rust a little

No no no... I want to pick up the whole vehicle, so long as the body' straight & in good nick, then I'll mix n match all the best parts I have into the one thats got the sunroof.

So if any of you Aussie guys know of one that's got a sunroof in the Victoria region & it's going cheap - let me know...

I'll keep my eye out.. Gumtree is often good lots of travellers just trying to offload. Just watch for rust around the edges. Mines a bit bubby and flakey. good luck

Hi AE95. I'm in Melbourne now but I grew up in Port Noarlunga. I bought the car in Adelaide though as my unkle an ex-mitsubishi mechanic checked it out for me over there. You might see my car over there in a few weeks as I'm going over to catch up with my family again. look out for me I will have Vicco plates and black wheels now.cheers.
