so I got cutoff and had to swerve into a traffic barrier today, a nifty kind that flips out from the side and has some pretty weak lights on the end so that no one can really see it working. <bitter>
Luckily, my steering wheel isn't on the left, or my face would have been full of glass. The factory glass that came with these things is a little weak, I can't believe the explosion of shards in side. It didn't even cube like auto glass should.
Anyway, new windshield monday, I'll let you know how it goes and post some pics of the 'incident'.

Definitely grateful, I was only doing about 50km/h. Faster might have propelled the glass in my direction too. Just a heads up for those of you with 1989 factory windshield glass, its very dangerous, and shards does not cube. =\

Glad you are all right, although curious about the glass breakage pattern. When my A-T was hit on the driver's side door and window (while parked on the street), the school bus that hit it (while backing up WFT?) took out the driver's side window. If I had been in the vehicle (I left the car a short time before), my face would have been full of bumper and glass.
I forgot to take pics! You're right though, these old cars have the old style 'exploding' glass. If its financially viable, its a really good idea to replace at least the front 3 piece of glass (windshield, driver and passenger door). I won't be doing this on this vehicle, but if I end up importing another one of these and heavily modifying it, it will be high on the priority list.
