Just joined your forum. I have an early car, Feb 1988, number 7738. I had been looking for one and found this one just before it went to the wreckers because although rust-free it had an overheated engine. I got it for nothing and had the engine completely rebuilt. I have driven it about 24,000 miles since and it has 259,000 miles total. Everything works except the awd does not lock. We think it is a lazy actuator but need to remove it to see if the link rod will slide to lock the unit.
We also have a Tercel 4wd that has 321,000 miles. We live in the mountains and the Tercel has proved better than my 1997 Jeep Wrangler which I just gave away. Jeep would go sideways up our steep hill in snow and the Jeep heater was useless. The Corolla (Rolla?) sits a little low for snow driving and I am considering 14" wheels as I find the speedometer is about 5% fast and 14" wheels would correct that and give me a little more clearance - maybe new springs. My owners manual shows 14" wheels as an option. I look forward to information exchange. I was completely confused looking at the various photos to see a height control on one wagon. I would like to know more about that.

Welcome to the forum.  I am new myself.  I love the little wagon.  I am going through mine right now to get it back in tip-top shape.  Finding out which parts fit the car has been a bit of a task.  And it looks like any transmission work is quite a bit of labor.  But, I think once I get mine freshened up, it will be trouble free driving for another 140K+ miles.

Welcome!  Good to hear that you rescued the wagon from being junked!  So many cars are junked that could be saved, it's sad.

Is your wagon a 5 speed manual, or an automatic?  By your description it's my wagon's older brother (look at the photo linked in my signature).  Mine currently has 15" rims on it, though I'm not sure if one of the previous owners went with new suspension.  It seems to ride fine, though I get the feeling my speedometer is off.  I could never wrap my head around that, whether I'm going slower than the speed on the speedometer, or faster, with larger tires.  I just know my speedometer sensor is whacked, especially in cold weather it just bounces all over.

Rogue; 5-speed stick. Yes brothers! Your's does seem to sit much higher than my Rolla, I think mine is suffering from old worn springs. I'll post some pics.

"...I was completely confused looking at the various photos to see a height control on one wagon. I would like to know more about that...."

height control came out in the later  90's models - probably had all the extras too like sun roof, power assisted steering, roof compartment at the back between the speakers, cup holders, electric windows, monsoon shields, body mount factory roof raks etc... etc... etc..

Corolla 4wd??? Does such a thing even exist???!

Thats not true Jed.

I have an 89 from Japan that has height control, no sun roof or factory roof rack, but power windows and steering, and storage at the back between the speakers! no cup holders came factory either. =\

Thanks for the correction (  still learning    ) All the ones I've seen (online only) have been around 1991...  seems toyota did a whole range of mixing & matching - probably for different international markets...

Hi Ubbm. I also have a Terc 4wd too but am selling in a couple of weeks - great cars and am half thinking of keeping it and storing it at a friends farm. It's amazing the difference between the all-trac and the tercel. Tercel being a lot simpler but also has a more rugged off road ability and easier customisation. some members have discussed on the Terc site (Tercel4wd.com) the different struts that can be used from other toyotas to produce greater lift. I believe earlier model Camry struts might be able to give our cars a little extra lift and a firmer suspension in the front.(being as they are for a heavier car) but am not aware of anyone doing this yet. I also have some air adjustable rear shocks that I'm thinking of putting in my all trac (same rear set up as the Tercel). I guess we are all needing a compromise for road driving though as I think above 2" lift you will start to mess with the steering geometry (some of the Terc guys have removed the sway bars!) anyway this might be of help http://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5210&start=0&hilit=camry there is plenty of other info there if you have the time to search.

Yeah, its weird how many different internal trim changes they are! Although, I snagged some cup holders from a sedan corolla and they bolted right in no problem! Sooo At least they made it all interchangeable!! =D

Hi! My name is Alex, I'm from Russia, from the city of Novosibirsk. I see all the machines of their writing, so I decided to write a little about his. I have a Japanese Toyota Sprinter Carib, the position of the steering wheel to the right. Options: sunroof big, change in the height of the lumen high control (now there is no equipment), automatic transmission, a simple steel wheels to 14 inches. I live with my family in a small house. I have a wife and three children. Wagon, irreplaceable machine, when the house is under construction and repairs. We bought this car for his wife. She is now permanently at home with her baby. Sometimes, she takes the car when she needed. In the near future, I plan to buy another one, Sprinter Carib, with a mechanical gearbox.
