Noticed that the RF shock is leaking. Not so strange thinking of the milage....
Looked up some std shocks from a local delaer. Quite expensive, though.
But...found some really nice alternatives, but it says nothing about that they will fit AE95 models.

My question is then: can I use std Corolla AE92 shocks in my AE95?

On the Tercel4wd site we were looking at the same question and found that early model camry springs offered a cheap heavy duty option that significantly added ground clearence if you wanted to go offroad.

But also a member looked at All-trac vs std corolla"The '88-99 Corolla All-Trac strut is larger diameter as I suspected, at 2" (vs. the std Corolla's 1.75") and it had overall the same dimensions as the DX Corolla strut. So for a heavy duty installation, it appears swapping out a Corolla All-Trac strut might be the way to go. Heavy spring and bigger damper, same travel length, but with only about an inch less height. At Pull-A-part they only want about $15 each for the strut assembly, it might be worth an experiment to get them and swap them out of a T4wd. If I decide to try this I will photo document it and post it here, unless one of you beat me to it." there is a heavier weight in the front of the All-trac than the std rolla so it seems Toyota used heavier duty shocks to compensate.

Also for offroading you can check this thread out http://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5210&hilit=camry&start=30

Hi, as you are in the states you might have access to the Corolla GTS as we don't have them in Australia - this is also from the Tercel site. It's just a recommendation.. not gospel as none has actually tried it but maybe it will help you?

"Synth and I were at the local yard and discovered something very useful. The front struts on the '88-92 Corolla GTS and All-trac are the same! The GTS is not only far more common, but there are lots of aftermarket performance strut builders that have GTS from strut assemblies available. This GTS front strut is 2.5" dia and has a heavier spring (for the heaver cars they area for), it will swap into the Tercel4wd with a few minor modes."

"The whole strut and spring assembly will bolt into the tercel once you swap out the had or top mount (easy swap). The only other issue is the GTS and All-strac strut use 14mm bolt shank to mount to the steering knuckle assembly, and the Tercel uses 12mm shank bolts. so either you have to use a filler or weld a washer on to the strut mount with a 12mm hole, or ream out the Tercel knuckle mounts to 14mm. The strut looks a lot more beefy with the 2.5" dia strut tube and those heavy duty springs, I can not wait to try a pair on my Tercel."

Hey Dylan, Like I say, I don't even know what a Corolla GTS looks like, but it makes sense that there is much similarity between these parts. If i was in the North Americas I would be looking at a modified early model Camry suspension strut for better off-road and perhaps a Corolla GTS suspension for road orientated cars. If you go to the Tercel4wd.com/forums and do some searches you may find some information. Member Petros has had both the Tercel and the Corolla 4wd so he knows a lot about them and provided the above information. Good Luck!

Yeah here in Canada there's a handful of the GTS, there is a beautiful blue one a few blocks from me that I can tell the guy/gal takes good care of. =)

No, I'm in Sweden. GTS was never sold here.
My intension is just one: to pass the annual inspection. A leaking shock won't pass...
But my springs are good!
Getting extended ground clearance or more heavy duty suspension is not the focus for me.
Shocks to AE92 are quite cheap here - almost half the price of AE95 shocks so I'm just wondering if they'll fit "as is" - or give some other strange behavior to the car.

Sorry, just thought that most people on this site were from North America and Australia. Saw a couple of Tercel 4wds but no Corolla all-tracs in Sweden when I was there a couple of years ago.

Are you able to buy from a nearby wreckers just the part you need from a Std Corolla and replace it yourself to save money? The front of the All-trac is heavyer than the normal corolla because of the extra diferentials and transfer gear for AWD so they seem to have a heavy duty set up that is between the size of the std corolla and the GTS. I think that you might be able to get away with just the std corolla for the test and then perhaps purchase something heavy duty like http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Front-U.....7ff338#ht_2521wt_959 you may be able to get something from Russia cheaper as they seem to have many Carib sprinters imported. might keep the freight down! Good luck

All-Tracs are quite rare here in Sweden, mostly cause of the bad rust protection program that all japaneese cars has from this period....
Shocks should not be replaced by used ones! Thay do not last forever and need to be replaced sooner or later.

The shocks you are linking to has a fair price, it's about half the price here....it's a shame that freight cost would make the deal to costy for me... Importing from Russia? No way...
I understand that the All-tracs are heavier but I thought that it was only the springs that were different. As long as the AE92 shocks fit "bolt-on" I'll give it a try.

Here is a post that came through today (note: they use European date format so it is day/month/year as in 02/01/2011 is January 2, 2011).
http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=64673. More of a question than an answer but the information on Bilstein is interesting.  I need to check that out.

You can buy kyb shocks, in australia for around 300 for a set of four maybe less i cant remember,

either that or you can custom fit, otomoto coilovers for the front.

and play around with ae86 or lowered custom kings to whatever size you want bout 150 or so for the pair.

ae92 springs work very well in the front but not so well in the back

have a look on there website.
