for gas mileage on a full tank?

I consistently get 9km/L right now, 11km/L on the highway. My driving style is aggressive and its not running properly so this should be on the low end.

i get 190 miles. i use my car for a paper route. right now its currently a daily driver till i get a truck.

My rolling radius is off since I'm running on 15" rims, but I go about 230 miles before I fill up the tank.  I run it down to about a quarter tank or less before refilling most of the time.  I seem to be averaging 23 MPG, but again, that is most likely inaccurate.

18-20 in town..a lot of slow short trips
28-31 on the highway

always good to check if your speedo gear is worn, it can make almost a 20% difference..

On my wagon, the speedometer itself is messed up.  I pulled the gauge cluster out and did the test on the speedometer that the FSM says to do, and though it passed the test (I think it was continuity once per revolution), it warbles like crazy as it goes faster.  Which is just what it does as I'm driving, in warmer weather it warbles and bounces when I hit about 65 mph, but in colder weather, it will bounce and jump all the time!

This thread is one way to introduce my wagon to y'all.  I have an early '88 that I have had for 5-1/2 years.  It had 129k miles when I got it and it now has 242k.  I have pretty consistently gotten 28 to 29 MPG.  I religiously fill the tank the same way each fillup and log my miles in excel to keep track.  My drivetrain has the automatic with overdrive.  I very rarely drive the interstate, but have a lot of miles on 4 lane highways.  I live one mile off the nearest pavement and wish my driveway had gravel!  Hence my handle - or is that an avatar, I am not much up on this technology.  The '88's lack of sophistication suits this Georgian just fine.  I am very grateful for the AWD and hope it lasts a lot longer.  It has all original drivetrain with no mechanical problems (knock on wood).

220.000 km. 10-12L/100km in the town and 8-10 on the highway. My driving style is a very agressive and i use my car in the very cold winter days (-30...-45 C) and i use auto-engine-start system for saving hot in winter.

I'm now on the odometer 256000 km, an average consumption of 8-liter on the highway to the city 14ti at 100km, aggressive style of driving, manual gearbox allows much on gas consumption from 10 to 16 liters, respectively, for 100km run

I just took mine across the mountains from Edmonton to Vancouver. Fully loaded with wife, son, whole hatchback full of stuff, 2 heavier touring bikes and one a 50 -puond ski pod with 50 lbs. in it. Driving about the speed limit, I did 8.5 l/100 km until Hope. For the Hope to Vancouver leg I had a tailwind, and must have been doing 6.5 to 7. I could not believe it.

Unloaded on the highway in Alberta I do 7.5 - 8. So I was  surprised I did so well over the mountains. In town I use 11-13.5 per 100 km. But I live at the bottom of a big hill, and do lots of short trips involving 4 climbs out of the valley.

Ah yes Dylan You refer to the rivallry. Well, it will be a while before you have as many Stanley cups as we have , even if we never get another cup , which looks likely.

Yeah at the rate we're playing lately, we will catch up sometime when my children's children have children.

The best I ever got was while driving Interstate 10 in Mojave Desert between Riverside area and Phoenix; almost 32 mpg.  Very hot during that trip, 120 F (~ 49 Celsius), which may have contributed to better engine efficiency. I've noticed my A-T drives better in hot weather.  

I agree, my gas mileage takes a real dip in the winter time. Even on the highway the other day, I drove 400km 2x200km drives, and barely averaged 10km/L or 10L per 100km however you want to read it. =)

It was also -20C with about half that drive in very windy territory, gusts up to 90km/h. This thing holds the road pretty good in cross winds, especially if my suspension was better.

i just drove from Phx to Boise and most of the time I got 30 to 33 miles to the gallon. This is with mostly/ low  coccasional med octance grade which is up to 10% ethanol stuff in Idaho thru Nevada which is fairly flat not any real mtn passes, or the kind i am used to in the high Rockies.   This is with a new set of stock plugs ND u groove , skinny 175/80 tires alittle overpressured., though I was carrying a suitcase in my not to aerodynamic roof rack.  By the way , the groove on ND's is now on the bottom electrode. Anyone know how long that has been going on? What non OEM plugs are you all running?.

I'm running on the recommended OEM plugs... NGK's, forget which one, but it's in the owner's manual and the auto store computer pulled them up as well.

Pretty good for having that MPG with the not-so-aerodynamic bag on the roof!  I wish I had a roof rack...

The non oem roof rack is actually a low end unit that I found at a garage sale. It had two cross bars only.  I added the Thule brand carrier / 'basket' . The cross bars  mounted them via some hold 1 " hold downs that fit under the door rubbers and have just a standard nothing fancy 90 degree lip.  I do have a garage sale pair of yakima rain gutter uprights with matching round bars.  The rain gutters on the all trac are kinda funky so i havent been in a hurry to mount it yet. not till i check the sturdiness of the gutters.  lots of thule and yakima used stuff around , if you look for it .. you can mix and match the stuff if you are a little creative.  gt  boise

I just replaced mine with NGK's as well, I gained a bit of mileage, but nothing serious yet. My problem is .... something else! haha

I replaced my plugs with NGK V-power model 1266.

So far, okay, but I have not checked the mileage.  Cross my fingers.

My iphone gps tells me I was doing 51.5 km/h when my speedo was saying I was doing 60. So maybe my mileage was to good to be true! If so, that sucks - looking at 9-10.5 on Hwy and 13 - 15.5 in town. No better than my much more loaded and capacious subie! Damn. Somehow, the damn thing is still more comfy and fun though . . .
Maybe the GPS is off. Shows the Subie's speedo as dead accurate though.

My speedo is like 5mph off, which makes me think that my odometer isn't accurate, but I got between 450-475 miles on a tank and a half. Works out to like 28-29.5 mpg.

I bet your Subie is off and your Toyota is closer. =P

Checked my odometer against known drive distances and it is about 10% over-reporting. So I guess the mileage is a hair better than the Subaru. Over 10 years it might save me $2000. That is still something. But it is awfully tempting to go for something really efficient, like an old Tercel wagon. But the thought of anything more underpowered turns me off, unless it is aso larger, like a diesel Townace or something.

660,000 km - current engine has done 300,000 km with cylinder head overhaul after 110,000km as it runs on LPG - still going strong  
Know of another car locally that has done over 550000 km with much less work

Since I've switched to smaller wheels (back to the original rolling radius), I haven't seen an improvement on my gas mileage.  I'm not sure if this is because I'm pushing my wagon too hard when driving (I drive aggressive-defensive), something is royally screwed up with my speedometer, or if there's something mechanical that I need to look into.  I get about 22 mpg now.  

After I tuned up my car (generic plugs, idle at 800, reset timing to 10 degrees BTDC from 13, inflated tires properly, partly fixed the distributor leak problem and put both an oil cleaner in the crankcase and Techron in the gas) I got 32.6 mph on a long distance trip (90% smooth driving, the rest stop-and-go city driving and stop-and-go highway traffic jam). I am also driving more reasonably, accelerating less and staying at the speed limits -- much to the chagrin of other drivers.
I am now keeping a log of my city and highway mileage.  I did get 22.8 in the city last week, but some of that was due to running the engine in neutral while adjusting my idle and timing, so actual
MPG for city driving is probably higher.

My next step is to add some cleaner to the transaxle and rear differential, run it for 1000 miles, and then drain and refill with a synthetic axle oil.   The more robustness of the synthetic axle oil should increase
gas mileage a bit.  Eventually, when I fix the oil pan gasket leak, replace the valve stem seals, and do a valve job, I will replace the crankcase with synthetic as well.

I just a trip through the rockies on the TransCanada highway. 1200km each direction, much of it up and down steep hills and winding roads, although an average speed of 90km/h isn't hard. Lots of 60km/h turns but lots of 120km/h straight aways through the valleys!

On this trip I got a consistent 13km/L and had no problems climbing hills. Had to use the upper RPM ranges a couple times shifting from 3rd to 4th to make 4th gear effective, but overall very impressed with the car. I always run premium, but for this trip I also put Lucas Octane Booster in the tank.
