Hi everybody,

I'm Jed from Melbourne Australia.
We're nearing the 150 members worldwide mark (last count = 144)

Thought it might be a good idea for members to introduce themselves, tell everybody where you're from, a little bit about yourself what you like to do.

Also little bit about your car/s, what you love about them, any modifications you've made OR are planning to make & how long you've had it etc.

Cheers!

-------------

..I work in building maintenance, never been into cars (...until I bought this one! ) but I love driving.
Love snow, hiking fishing etc etc THE GREAT OUT DOORS!!

The alltrac was the first car I actually purposefully chose. That was 4 years ago.

I wanted something medium sized, tough, good for daily driving & bush tracks, camping etc. But still well suited to the street as well...

I bought my alltrac wagon & have never looked back.
Very fun, reliable, economical & versatile car to drive.

I love how much torque 3rd gear has when driving on the street.

Aiming to build a strong all-round alltrac wagon with supercharged engine, raised suspension & full SR5 trims.

Own one & a half 4AGZE engines including a larger sized SC14 supercharger ...still trying to find an SR5 with sunroof for sale in order to complete the ultimate build.

If I could own lots of these cars & modify them in different ways I would!

I'm Ryan, from Florida, USA.  I do quality control at an aluminum fence manufacturer, been there for almost 4 years now.  It's great because sometimes I find car parts that I think to myself... "can I powdercoat this??"  I just ask for permission and 99% of the time, it's OK.  (For example, my rear-view mirror bracket.)

I like working on cars, something I used to do with a friend of mine like 13 years ago, then stopped for several years.  Since paying out the nose for a water pump replacement (among other related things) on my old LeBaron convertible several years ago, I decided it was time to get back into doing my own repairs.  I seem to find more stuff to fix / modify each weekend between my two cars (1994 Honda del Sol, and of course my All-Trac).

Other than that I collect some toys, and occasionally do some toy customizing.  I want to get into diorama building to make scenes for displaying my toys, but never seem to have the time...

I'm Dylan from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I'm about 3hrs north of the US border, and a 10hr drive from the west coast. 10 of the most beautiful hours of your life.

I love where I live, I've traveled all of North America and I can't find a more unique and amazing spot. Its a city of a million nestled literally with enormous mountains an hour to the west, and expansive prairies to the east. I was lucky enough to be born and raised here, in the last 10-15 years there has been an oil "boom" that has driven growth here exponentially. I grew up in an inner city neighborhood, the population was around 500,000 when I was born. Its about 1,100,000 now and I'm 27 years old. The growth of the city has made me appreciate the mountains, and how close we are to the feeling of 'escape' here. I see them every year, dozens of times a year, but for some reason the feeling is the same every time you get out and breathe the air. =D

I've tried my hand at a wide variety of occupations, I ran an extreme thrill ride for 4 years fresh out of high school which was owned by a family friend. Thats what allowed me to travel North America, I got paid to see the continent! After I had enough of that and felt the 'settle down bug' I got myself a job in a welding / machine shop. When the time came that the owner said I had to pick which one I wanted to apprentice under, I couldn't choose. I was still young and in party mode, and ended up losing that job to my own lack of effort and bad attitude. I learned a lot though, and I am still friends with the owner, luckily, they have saved me some money on my silly customizations and repairs of cars over the years. From there, I sold insurance, literally door to door. Except, I avoided homes, I sold to businesses and construction workers during the boom years it was pretty easy. Again, made great contacts but I didn't enjoy myself. Add a couple years of general construction to my job list, and I ended up getting a shoulder injury and having to move home to take care of my Grandma in the same short time period. This persuaded me to go back to school, which is where I am today; MOSTLY UNEMPLOYED student, living off savings and loving it. I work with a friend of my dad's from time to time doing general renovation contracts to keep the money flowing, and I live a pretty cheap lifestyle. My biggest expense is usually this All Trac.

I mostly hibernate in the winters, and when summer comes I love to camp, hike, bike, raft, and kayak, and I have my dog with me for about 90% of those, I just can't fit him in the kayak.. He doesn't mind rafting if its not too hot outside, though, hes a black husky so he prefers the winter. =)

ok - I'm officially jealous - we hardly ever see these in Australai & since I let one slip through my fingers a few months back I just start drooling every time I see one.

You should look after it allractive - as the years go buy there won't be many of these around.

Definitely worth putting some love into.

If you look in the vidz section thee's a few clips of AE95 sedans ripping it up on the dirt & in the snow...

My name is Dave, although most of you know me as Datsa.  Where does that name Datsa come from? Well, it does start with "Da" just like Dave, but it is actually a word from the Chipewyan Dene (native First Peoples that live in Saskatchewan and Manitoba), and it refers to a type of bird.  But it is also a reflection of what I do: by education and field experience, I am actually cultural and medical anthropologist with some archaeology thrown in for fun -- not the just the kind that digs up bones (paleontologist), but the kind that studies how other living people run their lives and their culture.  So what really interests me is in people who live mobile and itinerant lives, such as First Peoples (the last remnants of hunter-gatherers in North America), the homeless, rail riders and modern-day hobos, day laborers, migrant farm workers, South Pacific Islanders,  and others, etc.

I also have a medical background, having worked as a surgical/medical assistant/phlebotomist for the University of  California medical system for 9 years.  In addition, I have started and run free health clinics in the United States and, currently, rural and urban Mexico.   I take my All-Trac to Mexico every few months to run a free clinic.  The other times I fly into Mexico with a non-profit of which I am a member and help run one of their rural free clinics.  Someday, I'd like to combine anthropology and health care into some more advanced career, so I've gone back to school at the local university to take some classes.

Prior to working in the medical field, I worked in the computer field as a systems administrator/programmer/manager to support my anthropological endeavors; it is hard to make a living when your living requires you to literally wander around with other people.

As far as cars, I have been tinkering with cars for years, completely self-taught.  I would not say that I am a mechanic, but I like to be able to fix what I drive and since I drive to some remote places in the U.S. and Mexico with my All-Trac, it is nice to be able to fix it myself if it breaks down. I got the All-Trac precisely because I wanted a small wagon that got decent gas mileage, was sticks shift, and could fit into small parking spaces.  I've owned newer and larger cars and trucks, but this is hands-down my favorite.

I currently reside in Long Beach, California, but I may relocate within the next year depending on where graduate school takes me.

Sounds like you've got heaps of experience man both educational & the school of life great stuff!

....& I always thought datsa meant you secretly loved datsuns! LOL! Couldn't blame you if you did.... They made some great cars too before becoming known as Nissan (& of course went on to make some very fast tough cars)

My name is Eddy from Cooma NSW Australia

Bought my SR5 wagon new in 1990 in Melbourne.  Because I was doing lots of country driving, added a bullbar, driving lights, cruise control(which doesn't work well up hills especially around here) and converted to LPG as it was about a quarter the cost of petrol then.

Since had a Subaru Forrester but it wasn't as good in slippery conditions.

The area around here is a hot spot for wagons as Snowy Hydro which runs the Hydro-electric scheme in the mountains here had them as company vehicles in the early nineties - remember seeing then parked in the street in the company town in the mountaiins.

Mine has now done 660000km, while just about everything under the bonnet has been replaced (LPG is not friendly to the factory engine nor is water) gearbox and drivetrain is pretty much original as is interior.

Car has had a hard life, has been belted down all sorts of roads and tracks across eastern Australia at some stage, these days it gets used to collect firewood in paddocks and forest.  End up on some sort of track on at least a weekly basis, but is still going strong.  Current engine has done over 300000km.

Cheers

Well, not yet but perhaps in a few years.  I will probably try for a medical degree first, though. Much more useful for what I need to do.

I just got back from driving to Mexico (to run one of those free clinics)  on Sunday, and the All-Trac performed flawlessly.  The timing belt broke just days before I left, so rather than fix it myself, I went to a mechanic, who also fixed a nagging cam shaft seal leak as well.  If I had the time, I would have fixed the timing belt myself, but in the days just before the trip I was just too darn busy.

Next week, I will be flying to Sinaloa, where our non-profit has three free health clinics.  Those clinics are just too far, and maybe too dangerous, to drive to -- literally 1001 miles by car from where I live.

I also forgot to mention that I am studying biochemistry and microbiology, and while I'd like to say that I can do chemistry, real hardcore chemistry would be a stretch.

I considered getting the sedan as well after getting the wagon, but one car All-Trac was enough.

Your paint job is similar to mine -- peeling clear coat.  Apparently there was a bad batch of burgundy paint.
I still have not painted mine -- less likely anyone will steal it while I am driving it through Baja.

Hi Eddy,

Rare to find an original owner! and 660,000 kms! I used to get up your way a bit - Perisher etc.. in my Tercel wagon, but these days I've updated to the corolla. I was thinking of getting the LPG set up on my car but the subsidy for installation has been  reduced significantly and as you know, the prices of the fuel are not going down at all. I've noticed how economical my car is on the freeway compared to the city - around town I'm on around 10L/100kms, freeway - 7L/100kms. I was also thinking of getting cruise but it seems very expensive to install as I was quoted around $650 here in Melbourne.

Great cars in the snow! I guess you got some stories. What rubber does you car have for the snow? and do you have any suspension mods?

Cheers, Matt

Hello Matt

Strangely enough the car has spent most of its life in Cowra, which isn't known for its cold weather.  (Air conditioner had plenty of use though) Prior to moving here, the car had only been in snow when I'd ventured into the mountains here in NSW or Victoria for a day trip.

These days I live at 1100 metres, so the ocassional snowfall is not unusual. As i write this the thermometer outside says -6.  Car may be difficult to start tomorrow.  The next couple of days may be interesting with snow predicted.

Theres been a few times when I've driven home with snow on the road over the past couple of years.   Likewise hit ice in the mornings.  On those really cols foggy mornings, biggest problem is the windscreen icing up as I do the 35km to work,
heater can't cope with de-icing at 100 km/h.  It still amazes me how much ice can build up on the front of the car on the way to work sometimes.
Best snowfall so far was 2008 when we had 50 cm of snow overnight followed by rain next day.  Couldn't go anywhere as the snow was too deep.  That afternoon, as I'm in the local SES unit. I was asked to go and inspect a garage here in town that was beginning to collapse under the weight of snow and ice and extract the car if possible.  Before I did anything I had to clear some of the snow around the front gate so that I could open it.
My front yard has a creek through it so I have a dip in my driveway.
On reversing out of the garage I engaged the centre diff lock, but the light didn't come on.  With the centre diff lock not working I almost got to the top of the dip and stopped.  Any attempt to move had me sliding back towards the creek that was filling with water.  Took me an hour to get the car to safer ground, meanwhile the council grader had come past and cleared some of the snow of the road. Drove down the driveway. turned it around on the road and put it back into the garage.
For some reason, when I test the centre diff lock it always works, but there have been a few times that I've needed it and it has not worked, you certainly notice the difference when it isn't working in slippery conditions.

As far as tyres are concerned, up until moving here it had the standard Bridgestones, now have the standard Federals, although I don't think they have as much grip in the wet. Have contemplated putting other tyres on, but even though I do get into some extreme conditions sometime, they have been OK.
Biggest problem is not the tyres but lack of power moreso running on LPG.  Some of the slopes I drive up when I go get firewood need a runup.  Stalling would mean rolling back to the bottom and trying again, fraught with danger if you have a trailer attached.

Suspension is standard, and belting around on rough roads, its done plenty of hard work.  Original shocks replaced with gas shocks around 200000km, but managed to destroy both front gas struts within 100000km.  Current ones have done at least 300000km and they're not happy now.
When the car was new I considered raising it but thats as far as it went.  Likewise considered sump and other guards.
Have learnt though, when there is a large rock or other item on the road or track, move the car over so that the centre of the car doesn't go over it and destry the sump, gearbox of diff.  Have plenty of underfloor damage though.

From memory my car would do 8.5-9 l/100km on petrol and 11-12 l/100km on LPG.  Pricing for LPG is all over the place though.  It costs me $40 to fillup here on LPG or $50 for the equivalent distance on petrol.  We have a Liberty Service Station 60km up the road selling LPG for almost 20 c/pl less.  Always enjoy coming back to Victoria as LPG is so much cheaper.

Talk to you soon

Keep Warm

Eddy

Hi Eddy,

Yeah, bit of a cold snap coming your way mate. I think I will hold off on the LPG as it does not seem such a bargain anymore but maybe look at getting some heavy duty King springs front and rear. My Tercel was pretty well 50/50 weight distribution but I think the Corolla is much heavier over the front with the transverse engine/gearbox so I think my front end might be the focus.

Do you have synthetic oil in your gearbox? I did this with my Terc - Redline GL4 - and it dramatically improved the shifting. I think perhaps the linkages can get a little bit loose after a while.

Yeah, that's weird about the Diff lock not coming on. I accidentally put mine on on a straight bit of road the other day at 100kmph while fumbling for the ipod but no problems that makes me think that maybe it is not working anyway. I'm running Hankook Silicas on 14" Corolla rims right now which are wearing really well - speedo is only 3% off. Done a couple of runs from Adelaide to Melbourne recently and getting that good economy figure by staying just under 100kmph and being kind to the gas peddle. I think we are really lucky in Australia as there are so many of these cars around compared to the rest of the world. In Japan they still make AWD Corollas but sadly Toyota doesn't really do niche vehicles over here.

Cheers! Matt

Must admit that after changing to gas shock absorbers the front end was more willing to float when going over a hump in the road or being worked hard, but was less likely to go all the way - often wondered if the shock absorbers were for a standard Corolla.

Must admit that I have no idea what oil I have in the gearbox - leave that up to the mechanic.  Have been having to top up with Castrol EXP 80W 90 as it has developed leaks.  Probably replaced 5 or 6 left hand seals, last one only lasted about 20000km, but the current one has lasted longer.  Gearbox also developed a constant drip from the filler plug, tried various seals, new plug, plumbing tape, nothing seems to work, just left pools of oil everywhere it went.  Only thing that has worked is using a standard tap O ring.  Apart from this the gearbox is untouched.
Shifting has been a problem for about 400000km now, shifting up is OK but going from 4 to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd is noisy and sometimes needs some persuasion.  Discovered recently that the syncro in 3rd is so bad now that I don't need to use the clutch to shift if I can get the revs right.

Talk about being cold - normally might get 2 light snowfalls here over a winter, had 5 decent snowfalls so far and today the highway was closed for about 5 hours while they waited for it to stop snowing and clear the road.

Might have to catch up with you next time I'm in Melbourne, usually down there every school holidays for a couple of days.

All the best

Eddy

Hi my name is Brian I live in Mount Vernon Washington state USA. Im a full time nurse and I love working on cars. I have an 89 all-trac SR5 with sunroof. I purchased this car about a year ago for $200 with a blown head gasket. I pulled the drivetrain from another low-mileage all-trac of the same year to put in this one. The other car ran great but it had too much rust to restore on my budget. Currently Im restoring the sunroof and repainting the top of the car. Since I bought the car the sunroof was stuck and had a leak. For those of you interested in painting your own cars cheaply, dont have, or arent allowed to use a sprayer it can be done in your driveway with Rustoleum and a foam roller. There are many links on-line that show you how to do this. If any of you are interested I would be happy to share my experience in real time on how to paint your car for less than $200. Last year I painted a 4runner the same way with great results.

That's interesting to hear they were used as company vehicles for the snowy river hydro - testimony to their capabilities... I hear there's quite a few of them in Tasmania... My second one originally came from there..
A lot of people on corolla forums & twincam etc bag these wagons but everyone I've ever known who's owned one swears by them

^^^HAVE YOU GOT ANYWEBLINKS ON HOW TO DO THIS???^^^
Hey Bam, I just purchased an SR5 with sunroof & the usual rust challenges, however is not quite leaking yet. I just thought today, foam filling the sun roof could be good for sound deadening as I can hear a bit of wind turbulence.

(I also bought an imported 'carib' badged wind visor for the sunroof that I hope will help keeping any wild weather out & increase the longevity of an already tired sunroof)

I'd definitely be interested to see/hear what you've done paint wise - especially if you've got pictures...

My sunroof also has rust along the edges but does not leak yet.  It was stuck for a while, but once I got it open (it would do that intermittently), I sprayed the cables (that open it) with WD40 and it has never stuck since.  One of these weekends, I want to remove the sunroof, scrape away the rust, get some welding shop to fix the deteriorated metal, and then paint the car.

I thought about painting the car the same way. The problem is that I wanted to paint my car with the same color, and I as I have a burgundy colored All-Trac, I cannot find a matching color. Any suggestions?

imported 'carib' badged wind visor for the sunroof that I hope will help keeping any wild weather out & increase the longevity of an already tired sunroof)

I'd definitely be interested to see/hear what you've done paint wise - especially if you've got pictures...

Me, too.
Where did you get the Carib badged wind visor?

There should be a paint code for it somewhere. Have you contacted any auto stores etc?

Got the carib logo'd wind deflector on Australian ebay - only time I've ever seen one.

But You can find them on yahoo japan and get them imported to you (along with a whole range of parts)

Google search 'jesse streeter' He's an Aussie guy who lives over there, has his own drift website and runs a legitimate dusiness buying items in japan for postage to just about any country for a small fee.

I've bought a number of parts through him. He's a hard working good guy.

The paint code on my A-T is in the door jamb and on the firewall: 3H4.  But I cannot find any Rustoleum that matches that paint; they only come in standard colors. I did buy a spray gun set, but since I live near the ocean, there is too much moisture in the air to paint the car with spray -- even in a garage. It mists and drizzles much of the time; right now, despite being almost July, it is drizzling outside. I need to borrow a garage inland or heated and sealed, or better yet, a paint booth.

But before that, I want to get some paintless dent removal on some dents and have a welder fix the deteriorating edges of the sunroof (that problem cannot be seen at this angle).

Hi all been a Toyota fan for years. Mostly mini trucks and Tercel both canyon carvers on account of that's the way I roll!:p Had a very hard time doing a timing belt change on our Daewoo Nubria Wagon, yeah I know! Anyway my wife was losing hope so she started looking for a back up car and we stumbled across a 90 Alltrac wagon!

228,000 miles runs great, automatic (not a fan of that!) the think is horribly slow! (though I think the torque converter is slipping?) Anyway I really like the slightly odd looking thing.

Welcome!  Yes they are unique looking wagons.  Well, kind of like a Volvo wagon or a Honda CR-V.  People have asked me if it can fly in space, so I call mine the Space Wagon.

Well I think it does look better than the Pontiac Azetec! I've hated those things with a passion! And it's not as dull looking as some of the early Subaru wagons, those are just boring to look at!

Hello erybody!

I'm so happy to have found this forum. I have a 1989 SR5 Wagon that I love. I bought it off a friend of mine for $725.00 US it has been a fantastic reliable car. I do most of the mechanical work myself, not that it ever needs much work. I live in Germany and mostly drive back and forth to work with it. My wife is Italian and has nicknamed the car: Scatoletta- the little box. She hates driving it and can't understand why I love it so much. I swear to God that car starts no matter what.

Anyway- I'm happy to find a gathering of other enthusiasts here.

Yes, the Pontiac Aztec is an ugly looking thing.  I see those around and wonder what the designers were thinking...

Welcome aboard, wow an alltrac wagon on the Autobaunn! That must be..uh exciting! Mine is ok once it gets rolling but it's no speed demon. But yeah they are fun little cars for some reason? I love ours and now I get to go bouncing around the frontage road next to hwy 50. Just waiting for the next big traffic back up and I'm all set!

Yeah the Pontic Aztec proves that any idiot can't design a vehicle!

Howdy Folks,
Dan here from Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
About an hour north of Toronto and right in the snowbelt.
Been a Toyota fan for years. Have owned a number MK2 Supras ( down to just one now ) and a couple of 4runners.
Have always like the look of these little wagons but they are EXTREMELY hard to find in ANY condition.
Looked for years then a bro in the Toronto Supra Club hooked me up ( thanks Phil ).
Hoping to keep her for many years.
Oh ya - her name is Roxy. Ooo ooo ooo roxy rolla

You guys should check out celicasupra dot com - in my book the mk2 supra is best car Toyota ever produced ( okay, maybe the mk4 )

Hi!  My name is Chad and I'm from Anaconda Montana.

I just bought an '88 DLX stripper wagon (err...not many options, nothing related to pole-dancing) on Tuesday night as a "stand in" for my Saab 9-3 that got wiped out by a hit and run a couple weeks ago.  My wagon popped up on craigslist a week ago and I e-mailed about it really quick.  I took a look at it last Saturday and made a deal on the spot.  It has 312,000+ miles on it and has never had any engine work done to it.  The thing(s) that sold me on it is that I bought it from the original owner (a couple in the late 60's or early 70's) and he's religiously done 3000 mile oil changes and all necessary maintenance.  It looks pretty rough (it could use a hood, grille and passenger fender) and has typical rusty rear wheelwells but it's as mechanically tight as any car I've ever owned.  It should serve me well as a daily driver and ski-hill mobile for the winter then I'll go from there.  I'm very impressed so far!

Girls just don't get it. These things are economical, toyota tough & hey... there a wagon - win! Add to that the AWD & central diff-lock and you have one versatile vehicle...

Welcome, new folks!  If you didn't already know, in most areas these wagons are something of a rarity.  Can be a pain to source body parts, but as for the engine, it's basically the same as the sedans and FWD wagons of the same year Corollas.

Here in Australia were lucky, with a drier climate car bodies last a lot longer.  Mine is usually muddy six months of the year now but on the rare occasions it gets a wash it takes me about 4 hours to clean the vehicle inside and out and remove all the built up mud, not found any signs of rust.  Likewise none of the others I've seen have any rust on them.

I bet I take the car into places that the Japanese designers never envisaged.  Found myself driving up a hillside last weekend to collect firewood but with no speed stalled and found that the brakes with drums on the back were barely able to hold the car from sliding back down the hill.  Turned the car around, went back to the bottom of the hill and had another go at it at around 3000-4000rpm and got to the top OK but again the suspension worked really hard.

Does anybody know how high the car should sit, ie what is the difference between the top of the tyre and wheel arches for both the front and back.  I'm curious to know how much my wagon has sagged gver the years, when I look at other wagons,  mine seems to sit lower these days.

Regards  Eddy

What color is your All-Trac. I may have a few parts lying around.

Also, you say no engine work?  Does that include no water pump, spark plugs, or timing belt changes?  If so, that would be incredible.
I would check on the status of the timing belt; when they go, you lose all power and just coast. Fortunately, these 4AFE/4AF are non-interference engines, which means that when the timing belt breaks, the pistons don't hit the valves, so you won't get bent valves.  Doing  a valve-job is supposedly a PITA if you try to do it yourself, and it you have a dealer or shop do it, it could cost more than what you paid for the vehicle.

For the rusty rear wheel wells, you can sand the rust off or use some rust remover or naval jelly, weld in new metal, and coat the metal with a sound-dampener and rust-inhibitor. My A-T apparently came with a gray-colored rust-proof rubber layer; it lines most of the bottom.  I bought some extra of it to spray on the wheel wells, etc.

Hi, I'm from Vancouver BC, Canada. Owned a bunch of different Toyotas. Grew up with AE86 and Supras. Regretted selling a mint ae95 a few years back and just picked up another one a few days ago. This one is much rustier and in way worse shape. However, it has working A/C. super rare here. No crazy builds. Just trying to make the car a reliable daily driver for the next 2 years because I'll be in school again. I'm also a big BMW guy, owned lots of e30, e36, e34, e38 and some other ones.

Hi Eddy,

Yeah, that's weird about the Diff lock not coming on. I accidentally put mine on on a straight bit of road the other day at 100kmph while fumbling for the ipod but no problems that makes me think that maybe it is not working anyway.

Try going forward and reverse very slowly (20 km or under/hour) after pressing the Diff Lock button.
Could also be the indicator bulb has burned out or is loose, but normally unlikely.

On the subject of diff locks, now that the drought has finally broken here this year and we have had more than enough rainfall,  I am using the car across wet and muddy paddocks just about every weekend and having to use the diff lock not only to get up hills but also downhill, and it has worked without fail.
Is it a case of if it is tested or used regularly that it will work, but if it rarely or not used then problems will develop?

Hey All,

I'm Eric from the PNW and a long time toyota fan with past ownership of 4 tercel 4wd wagons at different times. I've aways been interested in getting a Camry or corolla all trac wagon, so I'm stoked that this forum is out there for me learn more and maybe find some leads on a good all trac to buy at some point. I usually am out in the wild, hiking, foraging and/ or taking pictures so it helps to have reliable 4wd that gets great mileage. Can't go wrong with the classic toyotas in my book!

HI All,

Greetings from Alberta Canada...

I just became the proud new owner of a 1992 Corolla All-Trac Wagon and thought I should join up!  Its a one owner 5 speed SR5 model with 130,000 miles (208,000 km) on it and is in unbelievable condition.  The previous owner bought it new and had it dealer serviced for its whole life AND the car came with every single receipt for every single bit of service/repair ever done.  I will post pics in a few days.

Its Toyota #3 at our house (01 corolla, 94 Tercel) and it replaced a 89 Eagle Vista Wagon 4x4 that was taken out by a lady who ran a stop sign.

I paid way to much for it ($3900) but it was in such good shape and was so well maintained...i could not resist...that and my wife had to have it.

It will be a daily driver for my wife and other than some 14" wheels...i have no mods planned.  Look forward to learning lots about these cool little units!

Cheers

Ed

Welcome, more new people!  I have to wonder how everyone is finding the forum?  Like a Google search, another forum?  I know I have this forum linked from my signature at the ToyotaNation forum, to hopefully draw more people in.

As for how the wagon will handle in winter weather... have a look through the video section of this forum

I've handed out at least 10 invitations with the card, some of them directly to the driver of the car... so far I don't see anyone that has joined from my cards! =(

I had an opportunity to pick up another All-Trac for cheap...so since I was so impressed with the feel, ride etc... of the one I bought earlier this week...I thought two would be better than one!

Its a 1988 automatic, with 210,000 km on it...needs some work but I only paid $260 for it so I dont mind!

So now I am in deep!

Hi All,

Names Danny from Port Coquitlam, BC Canada.  I'm the proud 2nd owner of a 92 SR5 All trac wagon. I’ve had it for 5 years now and love this little car. Got it with 147000k's she’s got 310000k's no her and still runs like new. I also have an 88 SR5 pickup that I love as well but find that I'm always in the wagon. Ski trip, Camping trips, what ever I want to do and go the wagon is perfect for all conditions (except for real 4x4ing that’s what the trucks for) Funny thing is I was looking for a Subaru when I came across the All Trac but I bought it on the spot and I’m so glad I did.

Well just wanted to introduce my self

Danny

I was looking for anything Nissan (I was just coming out of an '89 Sentra), Toyota, and was considering Subaru.

I wasn't looking for a wagon, but it stole my heart because winter was coming, and it had AWD and a diff lock button. =D

Hey how's it going guys?? Names Will and I'm from Long Island, New York in the states. I just picked up my second all~trac about three weeks ago and relized how much I love these strange lil wagons (even though this ones auto). My first, a 89  tha my pops and I got 4yrs agofor free to go to the junk yard. Now me being the big corolla head tha I am, I was very interested to know what exactly the car was. So upon looking this car over and studying it I noticed the the battery was disconnected, so of course I hooked it up and the beeping noise started for the key in the ignition. The car started rite up ! We drove it back to the house. It drove mint minus the low air in the tires. Over all the car had 109k mileson the clock, body wise wasn't the greatest, rusted behind the rear wheels and hit in rear also. We replace the hatch and strightend it out as best as possible. At the time I was having issues with the vehicle tha I was driving, so I put the car on the road and loved every second I was in the car. Sadly it only lasted me 4 months but had a lot of fun in the snow, woods, mud, and on the beach. And never once got the car stuck !! It took me these 4 years to finally find another one, but I found this 92 and couldnt let this slip! I paid 1100 for it (it was worth it only a lil bit of rust on the passenger side behind the rear wheel). The car has over 204k miles and runs like a champ !!! Although it auto lol. I'm in the process rite now of locating a 4agze to match to my 5 spd from the 89 and drop it in to the 92. I just really love have such odd and rare cars! And these cars are rare around here !!! In 91 there were only 9 or so sold. So ya hard to find parts and even worst Im the only one tha I know with the 5spd around here. But ya like I said I love these strange lil wagons so much!!!!!

Welcome!  I didn't know what engines went into the newer Sprinters.  7A-FE is better than a 4A-FE   Now just get a 4A-GE head & some other parts and make a 7A-GE

Welcome!  Funny how some of us here were looking for Subarus when we found our All-Tracs!  (I'm in the same boat, I believe dylangumby as well.)

Me too!

That's exactly what happened!

Hi guys, I dont have a Corrola All trac but I do have a very rare 1989 Camry All Trac. I would love to have a all trac wagon but you take what you can get. Here in Salt Lake City, UT, people dont like to sell their all wheel drive Corollas. So hello. I am on the search for a Corolla All Trac Wagon....

Welcome    And good luck with hunting down a wagon.  I think you have a better chance being there, more out West, where there are more of these things around.  Sucks about having something a little "too" unique, the Camry All-Trac in question previously.  I thought it was bad enough having a Corolla All-Trac, I've only seen 2 in my area since I bought mine.

A friend of mine was telling me that he swears his aunt in Canada had either a Corolla or Camry All-Trac sedan.

I guys, I'm Paul from Calgary.  I've been lurking this forum a while.  I drive a 90' Cressida that has a 7mgte in it.  Still working out the little issues with the swap.  I'm in the process of buying a 88' all trac wagon.  The car rear ended a truck a year or two and has some damage but I'll find parts for it.  Anyway, I'll make a better intro another time.  I just thought I'd post up this cl add:

There's a mint all trac from Salt Lake City for the guy 2 posts up.  It's auto though.

Awesome to see a veteran AE86 owner can appreciate these cars... I think somehow they flew under the radar when they were first produced (in Australia at least)

They're a good platform ...not as easy to work on as some other toyota cousins, but there's plenty of room for modding in different ways

Welcome chip - Wish I knew more about the auto's.

We need some one passionate enough about them to do some backyard research and development into these things, so they can post their results for all AE95 auto lovers...

Auto boxes are good for street drag racing if you're keen enough to mate up the right engine

Hey riffraff - Always glad to see new members 'ROLLIN' in Especially those who are toyota fans that have owned a number of these cars.

So many people have overlooked the AE95 alltracwagon / carib  - On one hand, that's just the way I like it - keep flying under the radar baby!

On the other hand I'm always glad to see new people discovering these wagons and their potential for the first time so many years after they were produce - Rock on!

After seeing Kebin's and trbowagns modified AE95's I have a sneaking suspition these wagons might enjoy a bit more modifying glory, especially in years to come as they get harder to find.

In Australia, now's a good time to buy them ...just another old car going to the junkyard sorta thing ...and there's always a few decent ones worth saving.

"Pronto! Pronto! Scatoletta!

...girlz - they just don't get it...

Hi Eddy I think cardomain has ride height spec's
Oh heck - I'll do a web search for everyone - should probably post it elsewhere...

...

No luck.. but I did find a few reviews I'll post elsewhere on this site and... wouldn't you know it? I have my little rectangle booklet - owner's manual right here in a pile of paper beside the computer.

overall height (I guess that means highest part of the roof) is:

1450mm
57.1inches

1485mm - if fitted with roof spoiler
58.5 inches

I know king springs in Queensland to springs for the AE95 and they can add or subtract height to the customers requirements.

But ya like I said I love these strange lil wagons so much!!!!!

cI have only seen one Camry All-Trac in person.  My only concern about owning one is getting body parts; it is hard enough to find body parts for the All-Trac Corolla.  Also, did they make it in Camry All-Trac wagon or just the sedan; I've only seen the sedan version.

Do you mean the corner lights next to the headlights?  The USDM corners are different than the JDM ones.  We have that reflective amber strip on the outer edge, which I think is a US DOT thing (law).

We should open up a trade!    I actually might be getting an extra set of corners soon.  I rather like the amber bit on the end, but wouldn't mind having a set of "JDM" corners for a different look (even though it probably violates US DOT standards, lol).

I could not agree more.  Although my A-T is beat up, recently I've got some interest in it from others because it is manual. Me gusta el standard, pero yo no voy a dejarlo.  That's my gringo Spanish for "I like standards [that's what they call manual transmission stick shifts in Mexico], but I am not going to leave it/let it go."

It's a contagious thing - I own three and I still websearch for them and think of the different ways I would like to mod' each one. if I could own them all I would.
I know some people on the toymods and other sites consider them ugly but I love 'em and think they look a lot better than some of the boxier shaped AE** corollas..

KE** corolla wagons a real old skool kool tho'

Late 80's / Early 90's is a good mix of old and new technology though... Just around the time when ECU's came into play. So you get the benefit of Electronic Fuel Injection but not sooooo much computer throughotu the whole car..

Sonds like you know your way around cars/corollas a bit.

If you're serious about the 4agze conversion, there's a good write up on toymods from a guy who's user name is Kebin (he's on here as well)

I'm with you on this... if I find another manual wagon for a reasonable price around here, I'm totally grabbing it.  I've gotten two other people interested in these wagons, though neither has bought one (because they just aren't around here!).

This is the reason I love my two cars.  Both are fuel injected, but not too new (1988 wagon, 1994 del Sol) to have all kinds of scary electronic parts (drive by wire).  Imagine "drive by wire" steering, and it fails.  What the hell do you do??

Hi,
Name's Wez. Thanks Jedzwagon for directing me here (several months ago!) Sorry I never got back to your message, I'm not the best ebayer. (I had the greenyblue two tone AE95)
Currenlty offloading a navy blue AE95 XL on Ebay as I'm going overseas and need the cash! At least I'll still have ol' whitey for when I get back.
Anyway, my car is a white 1991 SR5 AE95, it's not much different to any others though it does have a rear spoiler. You'd notice it round if you see me, it's also now got a bull bar and roof racks.
I use it for everything, they're great cars. I live on a farm and I use it on the paddocks (I take care of it!). I go camping in it. I'm a muso so it's great for equipment and city gigs. All round great car.
Look forward to seeing more of this site.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Jedzwagon,

I was curious as to ride height as mine looked to be sitting lower than others I had seen, with new shocks now it does seem to sit higher

Regards Eddy

Hello from California!!! Just picked up a 1990 last week and have fallen in love. I've got a lot of questions and a lot of work I want to do to the wagon so I'll be poking around here a lot.

Hi,
Cheers

Hi Wez,
You sound as bad as me ..I own 3 of these things too.

If I remember correctly you're in Diggers Rest... I'm wondering if you know of any suitable trails in wombat state forest or gack of Gisborne and so on, that are suitable for our wagons.

I used to be a muso.., Not so much these days but I still have some guitars and recording equipment kicking around.
Look us up if you like, once you're back from travels. I'm around your way from time to time as I have friends and family in Melton and Sunbury... Also looking to explore some of the smaller creeks around Sunbury, Gisborne Bachus Marsh and Ballan etc.. for brown trout..

Will look out for your white bullbarred beast.
