TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. A shift kit is a replacement gear stick that raises the pivotal point of the gear stick & also shortens the length of the gear stick. This shortens the distance that you actually have to move your arm around in order to change gears - the by-product is it takes less time for you to change gears - very handy.
