bolting transfer case to transmission

I just got done putting a new clutch in and the motor and transmission are together. My question, is there anyone out here who has put their transfer case on without pulling the motor off(again). I originally removed the transfer case to facillitate easier removal and installation of the motor. Now that the motor is finally back on I cant put the transfer case on again without clearance issues on the side of the motor. Surely someone has replaced their clutch on these cars.

Exhaust Manifold Cracked

Hey Guys, every AE95 that I have looked at online before buying mine has extractors instead of the factory manifold and now I think I know why, it seems that as the engine mounts weaken with age the exhaust manifold takes up the weight of the engine and this causes it to eventually crack. Is this an Australian only issue? perhaps our routing is different?

Anyway I have been quoted $500. to have a new set of extractors fitted because apparently the standard corolla extractors don't fit. Does anyone know if there are any wrecks in Melbourne that I can get the extractors off? any other options? I can't afford $500 right now because I am studying. Cheers

Alternator

I believe my alternator is on the way out the door, my windows are rolling up slow, and when the car is sitting idle if I happen to need such useless devices as say .... my headlights, or maybe pressing on my brakes, my car idles at about 400rpm and shakes very badly.

I'm pretty surprised to learn that our stock alternators put out 60amps, or if you were lucky, you got a 70amp model at best. This is disappointing, considering the stereo upgrades I've been doing, and that I want to add a couple PIAA lights that I bought. They are only about 4-5amps each however, combined with the 5-10 extra amps the stereo is capable of using, I'm running into a possible problem. I know the ECU etc can take probably 40amps at peak, throw in the heater for another 20 amps, normal headlights, etc. suddenly you've got a big party with no amps! =(

I'm researching some high output alternators, but all of them seem to put out too much power and cost too much. I'm going to call some local shops around here, I'll post what ends up happening.

From my "friend" with the EPC, I found out the alternator was used on 4AF, 4AFE, 5AFE and some others, used in Corolla's, Sprinter, Sprinter Carib, Corona, and Carina's with those engines.

Replacing valve cover gaskets, and...

Earlier today I was out in the garage working on replacing my valve cover gasket & spark plug tube seals (those are always fun to remove...). There are two tubes which come off the valve cover and feed into the intake manifold (sorry, haven't looked it up in my shop manual just yet)... I think I broke one, it has a metal pin with some springs inside (feeds into a thicker hose). And I know I broke the other, thinner hose, because it snapped off as I was trying to twist it free of the VC. I'm hoping I can replace those easily enough... anyone know off the top of their head what those are called? Is the plastic piece on the VC which feeds into the thicker hose the PCV valve?

Also, I went to the auto parts store and picked up a set of valve cover grommets (that go under the three nuts). This is the part:

FEL-PRO Part # ES72123

But the set includes four grommets -- there are only three as far as I know. And if I didn't know any better, I'd say they were different than the ones holding down my VC. Well, other than the fact they're new & rubbery and not solid as a rock.

I'll try to take some pics when I get a chance -- been busy lately. Maybe I'll make a short video of the old VC gasket as I throw it on the ground... I'm sure it will shatter, it was that bad! Oil everywhere in the engine bay. Here's hoping this is going to be an easy fix for my poor oil-leaking All-Trac.
